If only the summer sun could make an appearance

By |Published On: May 8th, 2017|

Every month we have our eyes set on a few feisty fashionable pieces that we love for the dream-on fairy spirit they bring to our busy every day lives. The pieces we select epitomise the attitude of our modern mum in heels who craves more sensibility and beautiful experiences in her life. The pieces we selected today capture our Iconic Living Dream.

The dress we have chosen for this mood board is from a favourite brand of our´s that has become popular only in the last couple of years. Originally from the Ural region of Russia, Olga Vilshenko, the designer of the VILSHENKO DRESS, grew up surrounded by local craftsmanship, passed down through generations. She received an early education in sewing and tailoring watching her mother create beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces for her family in her spare time and bypassing the swathe of austere shapes found in stores during the communist regime.

We love almost every VILSHENKO DRESS for its unique ability to make every girl feel like Vasilisa the Beautiful, infusing the much needed daily dose of fantasy into her life. Another reason why we love these dresses is the way they mix elegance, femininity and fantasy, together with a spirit for story telling.

Another piece we are loving right now is the VILSHENKO lace-detailed blouse, reinvented several times by the iconic brand. The traditional lace-making method in Russia requires time and dedication and according to the designer each blouse can take anywhere from 8 to 80 hours.

And who does not love the MALONE SOULIERS woven linen and leather mule? It is made in collaboration with model Natalia Vodianova and born out of the shared love for Russian Embroidery. (As you can see, embroidery is here to stay). These mules are meticulously crafted from off-white linen woven with hearts. The sleek peep-toe and slim stiletto heel are defined by smooth fuchsia and burnt-orange leather. Available at NET-A-PORTER.

DESPITE OUTSIDE APPEARANCES, LET´S TRY TO SHIFT OUR MINDS TO THE IDEA OF SUMMER and the spirit of maximalism, drinking cocktails at laguna beaches and nibbling on fresh fruit from Italian-made tableware.

More than just a pretty plate, LA DOUBLE J Housewives is the latest in a series of collaborations with Italian heritage brands that celebrate the homegrown excellence of Italian design. This colourful collection has been made with ceramics masters, Tuscan-born Bitossi Home, and legendary linens producer, Mascioni, based in Varese. The collection features a set of fine porcelain dessert plates, stoneware dinner and soup plates, alongside 100% linen tablecloths, placemats and napkins printed with vintage patterns sourced from the Mantero silk archive in Lake Como.

This set of beautiful plates is definitely on our shopping list, taking the experience of dinner with friends at home to a completely new level.

SUMMER COCKTAIL PHILOSOPHY And what else to drink in the summer but Margaritas? To our delight, the classic Margarita is having a facelift: Instead of tequila the NYC hot bars are making it with MEZCAL.

Most people think mezcal is a type of tequila—but it’s actually the other way around. Any alcohol made from distilled agave is technically a mezcal, including tequila. Tequila is produced in a very specific region of Mexico and is made from 100% blue agave that’s steam-cooked in large ovens. Traditional mezcals, on the other hand, are made across Mexico using one of the more than 30 varieties of agave in existence. The pineapple-size hearts of the plants—which resemble but have no relation to cacti or aloe—are slow-roasted in earthen mounds over hot rocks. After cooking for several days, the agave is crushed under giant stone wheels (usually pulled by horses), fermented in wooden vats, then distilled in wood fire-powered copper or clay stills. That gives every mezcal its own unique spiciness, earthiness, and smokiness. And of course an extra dose of bohemian vibe…

Here´s to finding MEZCAL in a bar near you this summer!

Cheers
