Fashion Personalities

By |Published On: November 18th, 2015|

We often see a woman on the street who makes people stare and turn their head after her. She has this immaculate skin and deep thoughtful green eyes, or a marvelous elongated neck, high cheekbones and endlessly long legs or she is just somehow very attractive without a reason. I often ask myself what is it that makes a woman stand out? What do you think? Is it her features or is it her style, the way she carries herself in the crowd? Her poise and confidence? Her presence?

Looking for the answers I have decided to start this blog some years ago. Just like every woman, I love fashion but my blog is not so much about the clothing, the technique and the design itself as much as the woman who wears it (and the person who makes it). The films that I make at the moment give hopefully even more depth into these questions.

And because we are sometimes too focused on ourselves and what we do, or how we look and what we wear, I would like to draw your attention to the WHY and HOW of things. WHY we make the choices we make and WHY we make the same mistakes twice. HOW to develop a personal style and HOW being fashionable is related to personal style. In general what fashion has to do with the person in the crowd that makes us turn our heads after her.

So, is what you wear about who you want to be and what you want to say? I am not sure anymore if it is about knowing yourself, but perhaps it is about discovering who you are. When you think about fashion it is all about emotions and feelings. It is hardly ever about comfort, not fashion, but how about style? What is the style about? How can we connect fashion and style? This is what I want to find…and how important style is for a woman to stand out. Is really fashion about trends only and does it exclude the idea of having and keeping your personal style. Do women want to have a personal style or they want to be able to change as someone else wants them to? What is with the follow and obey in fashion?

In a naïve attempt to answer one of these questions today I want to discuss the style of an old fashion icon and a great beauty whose style remains relevant and admired today despite that she lived in the 50s.

When you think about it what is it that made her style be relevant up to date?

More on Countess Jacqueline de Ribes, her magic with clothes, of her own or of others’ design read next week. In the meantime, you may want to see the MET exhibition in NY starting tomorrow till the end of February next year.
