Colour your summer with the latest nail polish trends
By Claudia van Zanten
To add a bit of colour and shine (and matte, as the case might be) to the grey weather outside, Mums in Heels’ beauty editor put together the hottest nail polish trends for this summer and tried out Essie’s new Palm Beach collection. This surely will make the summer arrive with gusto!
Trying out Essie’s “Demure Vix”
Simple and Nude
One of the biggest trends we are seeing this spring and summer is keeping nails simple. We’ve seen long and short, rounded and square, but just as last year short round nails are still favorite. Nude, natural colours as beige, peachy pale and light pink are all hot this summer.
Essie’s “Demure vix”, a mauve-beige-light-pink-ish classic, or “High Class Affair”, a gentle apricot nude that is one of the six colours from Essie’s Palm Beach collection, are perfect when opting for this look, as well as Burberry’s “Nude Pink”, OPI’s “Let me Bayou a Drink” or MAC Cosmetics’ “Sweet Potion”.
Holding on to Essie’s “Pearly White”.
Whites
We are also seeing a lot of white colours this season. Classic whites, like OPI’s “It’s in the Cloud”, or more silvery whites with a hint of chrome or metallic, like Essie’s “Pearly White”.
Matte black
Matte nail polish has been popular for a while now and continues to go strong. Go for matte black, use it in a French manicure together with a bright colour or lots of golden glitter. Or apply just on two or three fingers per hand and give the other nails a natural polish.
All sorts of reds
We’ve seen all kinds of reds on the runways, from glittery bordeaux’ to matte corals and shiny cherry reds. All are allowed this summer!
Bright colours (yellow, blue, peach pink, purple)
From pastel to bright yellows, from glittery navy blues to peachy pink and purple: we’ve seen them all during the spring and summer shows. We love Essie’s “Lounge Lover” and “Shade On”: great coverage, dries super fast, lots of pigment and very shiny.
New French
The classic French manicure, with the white tips and nude topcoats, is something from the past. The huge trend from the 90s and 00s is however revived through bright colours, shiny or matte and glitter. We also see a lot of reverse French, or only just a small colour line around the cuticles.
