Behind the scenes with the hairstylist

By |Published On: March 18th, 2016|

There is always so much talk about what’s happening behind the scenes of a fashion show, but it seems people never get enough of such topics. They look for some kind of magic secret or a piece of spicy gossip. Well to quench your thirst for information, we decide dot give you a quick glimpse behind one of the most recent fashion events on the Swiss entertaining scene.

Today on the blog we are asking Mara Zgraggen a few questions about the looks she created for the Alliance de Createurs Fashion Event “The News Freedom”. Mara is a hairstylist and make up artist who works at Mad Hairstyling in Zurich. Thanks to Mara the three models had a sophisticated and elegant but at the same time easy-going and casual style. Assistant Sara Taiana.

Tsitaliya: The first model Elsiena, who was also at the unusual 70 years of age, looked so fresh, composed and chic in her outfit that the audience was swept away by her confidant charm. I had the feeling that came not just from the clothes she was wearing, but from the way you did her hair.

Mara: Because Elsiena had to wear a colourful outfit, we decided to keep her very natural with the make up. No strong lipstick or eyeshadows. However, we wanted to show her pretty and unique features, so we created a sleek look, pulling the heair backwards, but not completely and thus leaving space for some edginess.

Tsitaliya: What about the other model – Ellen? You did a messy bun, which gave her a very fresh perky look.
Mara: What Ellen was wearing was the expression of a global trotter and a bit of bohemian artistic look, so we wanted to let her show as if she didn’t put too much effort into what she did and there was a bit of playfulness and girlishness in her style. Once again we kept her make up very natural. Nowadays noone wants to wear a mask of make up. Plus we wanted to leave the focus on the clothes, not so much the models.

Tsitaliya: What’s your tip for ladies who try to do their own make up at home?
Mara: Always try to match the lipstick with what you wear and if you are too colourful may be you should refrain from adding too much make up and colour on your face. With the summer coming up, give it a try to some colourful eyeliners when you wear neutrals or white.

Tsitaliya: And the hair?
Mara: At Mad Hairstyling we try to avoid principals and trends. The hair is part of a whole look and its is adding to the character of that person. This is what we care about. We always look at the person first before choosing a particular cut, colour or style.
