Here at Mums in Heels, we love trying new beauty products—and it’s not lost on us that we’re lucky to have access to some of the latest and most amazing time-honoured brands. As always we like to share everything that makes you feel your best version and rock your beauty. Today, just before you pack up your bags and leave for your holiday here are a few updates on make up and beauty trends:

Nyx Vivid Brights Liners 01 (Vivid Fire) and 05 (Vivid Sapphire)

Negative space and brightly coloured eyeliner

We’ve seen the negative space on nails (also still a trend this summer), and it’s hot for the eyes too. It’s fairly simple to apply: just draw a line in the crease of the eyelids or trace the outlines of a cat eye, without colouring inside. The naked skin inside gives a cut out effect. Use a shadow primer and a good quality, long-lasting eyeliner. A black one for a more classical beauty look, or if you want to be really trendy, use a brightly coloured liner like the Vivid Brights Liners from Nyx.

Bright red, plum and nude lips

Wether you like sexy bright red, in which case go for a vampy plum, or you oike to keep it nude and neutral: it’s all allowed this summer. If you go for red or plum, keep your eye make-up simple. If you wear a brightly coloured eyeliner or intense eye shadow, nude lips will be a perfect combination. We tried out Nyx’s soft matte lip cream number 2 and 15, and loved the colours, the smell, and the fact that it dries on your lips and is long lasting, without causing that annoying dried-up feeling.

Grey (hair, lips)

It was The hair trend colour of 2015, and is still going strong: Grey. In addition to this, grey lips are now completely in fashion as well. There are many different tones and variations; choose the one that suits your skin tone. That is, if you dare to wear this!

Doll-like and coloured lashes

Non-black mascaras and doll-like lashes are hot and happening. Bright yellows, blues, purples, as long as your mascara has some colour, you are safe. If you stick with black, at least you have to wear long, thick doll-like lashes. It doesn’t have to look all Barbie-perfect: the messier the better!

L’Oréal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Dewy Glow Foundation

Radiant skin: Light, semi-transparent foundation and a bit of bronzer

In the summer we don’t want to look all caked up. A light, (semi)transparent foundation and a bronzer are all you need. We tried out L’Oréal’s Dewy Glow Foundation and it’s just perfect. You press the applicator in to a wet cushion with foundation and it will give you that light coverage you want during those sun-filled days. Finish with a matte powder and a gentle bronzer

Contouring/highlighting/strobing

Although we still see it, contouring is passé. In the past year we’ve seen strobing (highlighting) and non-touring as a result of the crave for a more natural way of beautifying the face shape. The good news: you don’t have to spend an hour in front of the mirror anymore in an attempt to drastically change the shape of your face.

Strobing basically means highlighting parts of your face where the natural light hits you. Your cheekbones, along the top of your nose, your brow bone, forehead and chin are highlighted. The “Highlight and contour pro palette” from Nyx conveniently combines darker and lighter shades of powder.

Powder is much softer than concealer or foundation, and this palette gives you the opportunity to seamlessly blend the colours to emphasize your best features in a natural way.

Blush high on cheekbones

While blush was somewhat cast aside during the strong contouring trend, flushed cheeks are now back. Use a blush below and high up your cheekbones, for an accentuated, sexy, healthy look.
