Baby, it’s cold and dark outside

By |Published On: January 4th, 2016|

This post is not about the next It-bag or pair of shoes. It’s not about sales as well, but sometimes even a fashion blogger, may experience the post-Christmas blues, or something like a real-life drama…

I really enjoy winter…BUT only till the end of December. Somehow after the pinnacle of my every year journey, the gluttonous holiday feasts and the indulgent celebrations seem to take a toll on my spirit. It seems quite possible that I lose my mojo and I start sinking in some sort of pessimism. Of course, my friends tell me that the same thing happens to them as well, so I started thinking how I/we can change the course of my/our actions so I/we change the course of my/our life (at least facing the new beginning).

You know how they say every beginning is difficult, but does it have to be? Is it possible that I change my attitude and thus change my beginnings?

I tried several ways only to find that the most cliché one seems to work best. Creating my future with envisioning. At first, I must admit I didn’t know what to envision which is why I started the easy and fun way – making my vision board every beginning of the year. I started creating something like a scrapbook. Among the trend items I wanted to have for the next year (trying to reduce them to only five each year) I started cutting out palm trees and pink sunnies, pictures of Oprah, Beyonce, Arianna Huffington and Garance Doré, sunny hiking trails in the mountains and family picnics, in fact, the list is long and everyone has their own associations and vision of success, love, friendship. The great thing about vision boards is that they can become your best friend. They are honest and so close to your heart that they never let you down, they never make you think about what you haven’t achieved, but about who you want to become and how you imagine your best version.

Vision boards, gratitude journals and …time for myself. These are the three things that have the power to keep me centered and at peace.

Time for myself means stepping away from technology and exercising my attention span with a good read or 20 min of yoga. These are the best moments I spend with myself.

So far you may say: right, this is nothing new or there’s no big secret in my revelations here, but that’s my whole point. Simple steps, well known, many times spoken loud, are the ones that work the magic. In the end don’t let your energy drift away and get wasted in bad moods. Focus on the big quality things that count in your life: family, friends, the work you love and your passions (yoga, books, knitting, drawing…) The best way to counterfeit those post-Christmas blues is by focusing on the things that make you happy and uplift you. They are usually part of your every day but we never notice them….

So many clichés in so few words…sometimes it’s not so bad living the clichés.
